Pongal Festival 2020 Bus Operation from Chennai
For Pongal Festival 2020, to Facilitate Ease of Travel to General Public, all the Stake Holders Were Consulted and the Following Arrangements for Passengers Boarding Places are Made for the Days 12.01.2020, 13.01.2020 & 14.01.2020.
Buses Departing from MGR Bus Station, Koyambedu will be Going to Vandalore via Madura Voyal, Poonamalli, Nazarath Pet, Outer Ring Road Instead of Tambaram, Perungalathur.
The Public and Vehicle Operators are Requested to Plan Their Journey As per the Diversions Mentioned Below to Make Their Travel Hassle Free.
BUSES OPERATING BUS STANDS
Andhra Bound Buses
Operation of all Tamilnadu and A.P.S.R.T.C. & T.S.R.T.C. buses to Andhra Pradesh Via Redhills will depart from Madhavaram New Bus stand, Chennai.
Operation of Buses Via ECR
Operation of buses to Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram via ECR will depart from K. K. Nagar MTC Bus Stand, Chennai.
Operation of Buses Via Vikkravandy, Panrutti
Operation of all buses bound for Kumbakonam and beyond, Thanjavur via Tindivanam, Vikkravandy (including SETC) will depart from Tambaram-Sanatorium (MEPZ).
Operation of Buses to Tiruvannamalai
Operation of all buses bound to Tiruvannamalai will depart from Tambaram railway station.
Operation of Buses Via Vellore
Operation of buses to Arcot, Arani, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur, kanchipuram, Hosur and Tirupati via tiruttani will depart from Poonamalle Bus Stand, Poonamallee.
The reserved passengers of above five sectors on 12.01.2020, 13.01.2020 and 14.01.2020 with Boarding point as Koyambedu of the above routes are requested to board the buses at the above mentioned temporary bus stands from 12.01.2020 to 14.01.2020 and also other than reserved passengers of the above routes are requested to board in the buses at the above said temporary bus stands.
Operation of Buses from Tambaram Mepz
Passengers travelling on 12.01.2020, 13.01.2020 and 14.01.2020 from Chennai to Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Adiramapattinam, Pattukottai, Mannarkudi and requested to board at Tambaram Mepz.
Operation of Other buses from CMBT
Operation of buses to various places other than mentioned above will be operated from Puraitchi Thalaivar M. G. R. Bus Stand, CMBT, Koyambedu as usual i.e (Myladuthurai, Kumbakonam (via ECR), Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Cuddalore, Virudhachalam, trichy, Dindigul, Pudukottai, Karaikudi, Ramnad, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Shencottah, Tuticorin, Thiruchendur, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Kanyakumari, Salem, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Ernakulam, Trivandrum, Tirupur, Erode, Ooty & Bangalore).
29,213 Special Buses for Pongal: M.R. Vijay Baskar Transport Minister
Mr M.R. Vijay Baskar Minister of Tamilnadu Transport Department has announced that special buses for Pongal are going to operate from January 12th to January 14, 2020. With the ensuing the important Pongal festival holidays in 2020, 29,213 special buses are to be operated all over Tamilnadu.
17 advance booking centres are to be set up for this. From Chennai itself, around 16,045 buses are going to be operated. Temporary Bus Terminals are also going to operate in Chennai.
The Tamil Nadu government has announced special buses for people travelling to and from Chennai for Pongal this year. The festival will be celebrated from January 15 to January 18 in Tamil Nadu. The three-day festival is a celebration of harvest and nature’s bounty and is an important festival for the state.
Six bus stations will be operational in Chennai alone. Buses leaving to Andhra Pradesh will begin from Madhavaram New Bus Terminus. Those heading to Thiruvanamalai will have to board from Tambaram Railway Station Bus Terminus while buses heading to Kumbakonam and Thanjavur via Vikravandi, Panruti will leave from Tambaram Anna Bus Terminus.
Buses to other southern districts like Madurai, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Trichy will begin from Koyambedu Bus Terminus (CMBT). Those wishing to travel on the ECR to places like Puducherry, Cuddalore, Chidambaram will have to make use of the KK Nagar Bus Terminus while buses to northern districts like Vellore, Arani, Arcot, Hosur, etc will leave from the Poonamallee Bus Terminus.
In order to avoid traffic on the highways, toll plazas will have an exclusive lane for buses, said Minister for Transport MR Vijayabhaskar.
Between January 16 to 19, for the crowds returning from their hometowns, close to 17,000 special buses will be made available. 4,500 special buses will be made available for those heading to Chennai alone while 9,370 buses will run in other parts of the state.
