In this excerpt from his latest book talk ([ Ссылка ]) Wright talks about the time he spent in Saudi Arabia to report on the al-Qaeda network. Banned from entering as a journalist, he gained permission to enter the country as an employee. He rented an apartment and took a job at a newspaper in Jeddah, bringing him close to sources, but also providing him with a sobering, deep view into the Saudi culture. He discovered how widespread depression is among the Saudi people, and the emotional damage caused by gender apartheid.
