This week on NTAT, we are taking a no-nonsense approach to a no-nonsense pedal. With only once control, this pedal has a limited spectrum of fine tuning, as per the original 70s phase it was based on, however, don’t let that fool you into thinking this is a one trick pony. The JF-06 Vintage Phase works tremendously as an almost wah-like enhancement to clean guitar, especially funk, or a great bit of texture for driven tones to get you into that dual harmony 70s rock heaven. The guitar used today was the Variax standard through the magnetic pickups and we go into a clean fender style amp for the clean examples and then running into the front end of a Blackstar HT5 for the driven examples because phase goes first, fact. If you like the sound of these pedals, they are easily obtainable both new and used and don’t cost the Earth either way, so for those wanting to dip their toes into phase, these are well worth a shout. Do you like this more than the MXR equivalent, or is the classic the winner for you? Let me know in the comments below.
