On Saturday 17th January 2015, I flew solo for the first time ever only 3 days after turning 16, the legal requirement in the UK. It was a great moment that I will probably remember for the rest of my life. I have been learning to fly from Gloucestershire Staverton since I was 14 and have tried to get a lesson in once every month. Before my first solo, I only had 15 hours of flying experience on two different aircraft (HR200;1hr PA28;14hrs). When I arrived at the airport at 11:30am, the visibility wasn't good enough for me to do my first solo, but after having a briefing with my instructor about what we were going to do instead of my solo, the weather quickly changed and revealed a beautiful blue sky. We headed out to G-GFCA at around 13:30pm, I didn't even think about my first solo as I thought I wasn't going to do it that day. But after my instructor requested to go into the circuit, he told me that the weather was good enough for my solo flight and that he believed that I was ready for it. After three circuits, I landed and taxied to the Tower Apron and dropped my instructor off, I was now all alone. Watch as I take off from runway 22 at Gloucestershire Airport and fly one right-hand circuit around the airport to land again on the rather bumpy runway.

On top of all that, there was a mayday situation at Gloucester at around 12:30pm because a Piper PA34 couldn't get its gear down. It did a low flyby next to the tower which they confirmed that the gear was not fully extended. Eventually the pilots of the Irish PA34 were able to dislodge the gear and get it down in time to land safely.
