More than 80 survivors attended a commemoration ceremony for the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp near Weimar, eastern Germany.
Survivors laid flowers and stood in silence in the former Nazi concentration camp, mourning their fallen companions.
Established in July 1937, Buchenwald was one of the first and the largest concentration camps on German soil. About 56,000 people died there, many worked to death between 1937 and 1945.
Today the remains of Buchenwald serve as a memorial and permanent exhibition and museum.
"We came here for the ceremony. This year marks the 70th anniversary, and we saw a lot about it on television. I told my children that this place is worth visiting, and when they walk here they would have a strong feeling which they will never learn from classes. They must come here," said a visitor.
