(21 Apr 1974) The UN Economic Commission for Europe met in Bucharest. The meeting offered a platform for interaction between European members of the commission and major international organisations. The participants expressed satisfaciton over the results of the 29th session of the Commission and expressed appreciation for the active role Romania has played in fostering security and cooperation across the European continent. The mayor of Bucharest, Gheorghe Cioara, addressed the Commission on behalf of the peoples of Romania. In addition, the Secretary of the Commission, Janez Stanovic, addressed the Secretary General of the UN, Kurt Waldheim. The major issues discussed at the commission addressed the role of new technology on the economy and the extension of economic cooperation amongst European countries.
