Steamrail returned it's popular Maldon Experience tour to the calendar after a 2 year break on the 25th June 2016 when R711 hauled the special from Melbourne to Castlemaine. Here passengers joined the Victorian Goldfields Railway train headed by K153-Y164 for the journey out to Maldon. R711 continued on to Bendigo for turning and servicing.
This video features R711 at Woodend and Harcourt. Then the branch special at Maldon and the return working to Castlemaine. It returns to the mainline to capture R711 at Ravenswood and Porcupine Hill. The final sequence is both trains at Castlemaine and the parallel departure.
