Full Transcription - Hello Quincy, Mayor Tom Koch here. This week is Community Development Block Grant Week. CDBG is a program that's been around since 1975. It's a federally funded program and it's a program that helps us to fund and provide resources to creative affordable housing, decent living environment, expanded economic opportunities for businesses and others for persons with low and moderate incomes, for programs and living spaces. This actually emanated from revenue sharing under President Nixon and it morphed into CDBG. Over the years, the federal government has given Quincy over one hundred million dollars in all of those years and we have done all kinds of great things in our City low mod areas. We've created housing. We have done roads. We have done playgrounds and parks. We have provided services to senior citizens. We have provided services to some of our newcomers in the City and various program ways. It's really been a great program. I want to certainly thank Congressman Lynch for his support of this. During Covid last year, we received extra dollars which allowed us to go out and help the business community during their challenges during the pandemic. So, it's an excellent program and we are again grateful to hi,. Also, I want to thank Jim Fatseas, our Planning Director and Sean Glennon who heads up the CDBG Programming in the Planning Dept. and the entire staff of the Planning Dept. It's a great week. They really have a great week this week because they can celebrate all the good things that happen from this program and if you want to learn more about this stuff, you can either go to quincyma.gov or a special site storymaps.arcgis.com . It will be up on the screen for you. But there's some great stories on that site to talk a little bit about it. Again, CDBG week. It's your federal government at work locally. It does make an impact.
