Participants from around the country are at the Ella Baker Child Policy Training Institute at Alex Haley Farm for the day to take part in workshops and team building exercises to help them as educators for the Children Defense Fund's Freedom Schools. The Freedom Schools are summer and after school education programs that serve disadvantaged youths. The weeklong program is spread throughout the area with workshops at Anderson County High School, the University of Tennessee campus, and the Knoxville Convention Center.
