You mentioned that you have a little five-month-old girl who has milk coming out of her nose after she eats. It's good that you went to the doctor because there are some conditions that can contribute to this but it sounds like everything's okay. The doctor just told you that she's overeating. So how do you prevent a baby from overeating, especially if she's just wanting, like you said, to suck for comfort? You're probably just going to have to find other ways to soothe her. Even if she won't take a binky, that's okay. There are pros and cons to a binky and one of the pros of your baby not taking one is that you never have to get rid of it. In the meantime, for the next couple of months, you'll just learn different ways to soothe her after she's done eating. You can try slowing her down a little bit and help her realize that she's full and maybe feel a little more comfortable and soothed if you nurse her on one side, stop and burp her well for a couple of minutes, and then you can latch her onto the other side but stop halfway and burp her again and maybe give her a chance to realize that she's full. You can try swaddling her, you can try rocking her, distracting her. At five months, babies are able to be distracted by toys and play so you can try that. If those things don't work and she continues to have a lot of milk coming out of her nose, you're still concerned, if you feel like she's vomiting, then it would be best to take her to the doctor again and they can check things out again.
