Whenever my hair gets modestly long I tend to just shave it all off using a Babyliss Easycut V2 clipper to remove the bulk of the hair and then a Philips electric shaver to finish the job.
I quite like the "bald head and goatee" super-villain look which also has the desirable effect of discouraging people from approaching you.
It's notable that when you first shave your head you experience all sorts of weird sensations that you'd never experience with hair. Wind blowing across your head, rain falling on it and the sudden warmth of sunshine.
