Asalaamu Alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,
Charity Week: 25th - 30th October 2010.
Charity Week (CW) is a student-run organisation dedicated to the welfare of orphan children.
The idea behind Charity Week is simple; to unify in our efforts to help those in need by raising money and awareness for orphans across the world. Last year over £5000 was raised by students in Rhul, for orphans around the world. This year aim is to beat that.
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
"I and the caretaker of the orphan will enter Paradise together like this, raising (by way of illustration) his forefinger and middle finger jointly, leaving no space in between." [Sahih al-Bukhari]
While student life can impose significant stress on students whether you are at school, college or university, Charity Week is an incredible experience and a perfect opportunity to do something new and nourishing but equally necessary.
CW provides the ideal chance to gain valuable experience in fundraising and is also an excellent example of the Muslim student community uniting and co-operating to help those less fortunate in the world.
Use your time, talent and tenacity to make a difference.
The value and reward of charity is immense in Islam and there are countless Quranic ayahs and Hadith which commend acts of charity and explain how it should be an integral part of our lives. One such example is that which can be found in Surah al-Hadeed: 18 which states:
"Indeed the men who give Sadaqah (voluntary charity) and the women who give Sadaqah (all of them) are lending a goodly loan to Allah; the return for them will be increased; and for them shall be an exquisite reward."
Some facts of today's orphans:
* 150 million orphans
* 8% of all children are orphans
* 42,200 children are orphaned every day
* 10.6 million (8%) of all children will die of preventable
causes before age five
* 5.4% of all children will die before age one
Why not help someone improve their life and Insha-Allah you will see and feel the rewards in your ownself.
Everyone is requested to take part and get as many people involved as possible.
Please pencil in Charity Week into your diaries as you have weeks in advance notice
