TERRY D. FILMS IN ASSOCIATION WITH PROJEX SOCIETY PRESENTS "BIG BOYS DON'T CRY" Written, Directed, and Produced by Darrell Smith.
Award-winning writer, director, and producer Darrell Smith ('A Deeper Love') confronts the worldwide epidemic of bullying in his title film "Big Boys Don't Cry". To bring the subject matter closer to home, Smith cast his teenage sons to star and co-star in the film. Spencer Rodger (Tyler Smith) is a 15 yr. old high school freshman adjusting to life after his parents are recently divorced. Making the transition from private to public school, Spencer crosses path with Rasheen and Xavier. Rasheen Brown (D.J. Smith) is a 17 yr. old high school drop-out who spends his days beating up on students at the high school. Xavier Rogriguez (Joel Smith), 15 yrs old and attends school with Spencer, hangs out with Rasheen and helps to terrorize other kids in order to keep himself from becoming the next victim. Both Rasheen and Xavier begin to terrorize and extort Spencer for money. Keeping the bullying a secret is very difficult for Spencer as he silently cries out for help. Stealing money from his parents to stay alive and contemplating suicide becomes Spencer's obsession. As Spencer's world begins to fall apart, the lives of Rasheem and Xavier are also impacted. "Big Boys Don't Cry" is a realistic depiction of some of the circumstances that arouse bullying and its connection to social problems. "Big Boy's Don't Cry" helps to understand and identify some of the signs that children and young adults exhibit as victims of bullying, even when they are the aggressor. The effects of bullying are long term and reach far beyond the person being victimized. Maybe next time you'll think twice when you hear someone telling their child that "Big Boys Don't Cry".
