Fire is a natural part of the southeast landscape and has occurred in our longleaf pine forests since the beginning through natural lightning strikes and first stewards of the land. Now, fire is put into our landscape by controlled burns. In July 2023, the Pulp Road Wildfire began in the Green Swamp Preserve. This video shows the resiliency of our landscape as well as the benefits of fire and how our native plants and animals adapt to fire ecosystems.
