WHAT IS HIP-HOP? What is the essence and meaning of it? Discussions in this topic are as old as... hip-hop itself. First comments and differences in opinions came around 1979 when the first rap hit single came out ("Rapper's Delight") - some thought hip-hop could only be performed live, so recorded in studio... it was not hip-hop anymore.
To find the answer, we went straight to the source and decided to ask this question in New York City, birthplace of hip-hop. Press play and hear what constitutes real hip-hop according to the pioneers, rap legends, as well as representatives of the young generation and underground scene. Featured in the video are (in that order): Planet Asia, General Steele (Smif-N-Wessun), Masta Ace & Marco Polo, Maliibu Miitch, Grandmaster Caz, Dres (Black Sheep), Danny Castro, Amari Mar.
