We have finally reached the start of season 5 where we take a full journey on the Island line across the Isle of Wight from Ryde in the north to Shanklin in the South. The Intermediate stopping stations are Ryde St Johns Road, Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the train from Ryde Pier Head because the section between the Pier Head and Esplanade had been temporarily closed for engineering works to strengthen the pier head bridges, and is not estimated to reopen until May 2025 as the works take place.
There is also another intermediate station called Smallbrook Junction which we went past without stopping there. The reason for this is not because it is a request stop, but rather trains on the Island Line only stop there on days that the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is running. There, the steam trains WILL stop at Smallbrook Junction. IDK why they can't stop the Island Line trains when the Steam Trains aren't running, but ngl that isn't very efficient. Because let's just say you work in Smallbrook Junction every day, and the only time you can get the Island line there is when the Steam Trains are running. That's actually off.
Anyway, the Island line used to actually run to other places on the island such as Cowes, Newport, Freshwater, Wroxhall, Ventnor etc. But those lines unfortunately closed in the 1960s/70s. IDK the particular reason but I think the branches should get reopened for better transport links - buses aren't the best way to get around when you get stuck in traffic!
