(4 Jan 2015) A fugitive member of Greece's November 17 group, re-arrested on Saturday after being on the run since Januray 2014, appeared before a prosecutor on Sunday
His lawyer later issued a statement saying Xiros felt that as "collaborators of the system" authorities were "unqualified to take his plea".
Xiros, 56, was serving six life terms for his role in the Marxist militant group which killed 23 people, including Greek politicians, businessmen and British, American and Turkish diplomats and military officials, from 1975 to 2000.
He vanished while on prison leave on January 7, 2014 and weeks later released a video criticising the handling of Greece's financial crisis, threatening politicians and journalists and vowing further attacks.
Greek authorities say Xiros was planning a major operation against an Athens prison in order to free other convicted militants.
A police spokesman told reporters that a search of the safe house Xiros used turned up extensive notes on approaching, and safely getting away from, Korydallos prison, in a western Athens suburb.
The house also contained rifles, explosives and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.
