How to Move to Spain? (EU and Non-EU citizens Spain Residence Permit)
In this video we will discuss the options to immigrate to and live in Spain as both an Non-EU and an EU citizen.
If you are an EU citizen, the procedure is rather simple.
This only applies for stays longer than 90 days in 180. If your stay is shorter, you are not required to do anything.
The first step is traveling to Spain, and then organizing the documents you will need depending on the activity you will have in Spain.
Usually the documentation is the same for most types of activities. The requirements include:
- Health insurance
- Proof of a place to stay (which can be a rental contract, or the property title if you own real estate in the country).
- A document proving that you will have some occupation (if you a student, a document showing you are enroled in an educational institution,
if you are working, a job contract, or documents showing you will open your business).
- If you won't be working right away, you need to proof you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses.
If you a non-EU citizens, you will have much less options to move to Spain, and they are much more restricted. However, it is
possible to do it. Here are some of the options you can explore:
Passive income Visa
This is one of the most popular visas if you want to enjoy life in Spain, but not work there. It is ideal if you are a retiree or
if you have some other form of income (passive income, business income, stocks, rental properties).
The main applicant must have an income of 2130 euros per month. Each additional applicant needs to add 532 euros to this sum.
This option is an excellent choice if you don't want to invest a lot of money like the amount required for the golden visa, and leads to
permanent residence and citizenship as well.
Student Visa
The student visa is one of the most popular options if you want to move to Spain and you are a non-EU citizen.
Some of the advantages of getting a student visa and residence permit in Spain are:
Fast processing, less requirements than other types of visas.
Tuition in Spain is far cheaper than in countries like the US, UK, Canada or Australia.
Access to quality higher education instituitions (both private and public).
Spanish language schools also provide grounds to get this visa.
You can work up to 20 hours per week if you a Spanish student visa.
Might be a good option to come as a student and then change your status to an employee or freelancer (autonomo).
You can apply for the student residence permit from inside Spain.
Work Visa and Residence Permit
The work visa and residence permit is another option to move to Spain. However, this type of visa is quite difficult to get.
First of all your profession must be in high demand, and then, you need to have an employer willing to provide you with a job offer.
Once you get the job offer, you have to apply in the Spanish embassy or consulate in your country of residence.
If you are a highly skilled you can apply from inside Spain, but specific requirements apply.
Self Employed and Business Visa
The self employment and / or business visa is a good option to come to Spain if you have a solid business plan and
ideally experience on the field you want to work with. Diplomas in the field are also definitely helpful.
Just like the standard work visa, you will have to apply from abroad.
The advantage of this option is that your residence permit will not be tied to an employer.
You also do not need to hire Spanish nationals to acquire this visa. However, the higher the investment is and the higher the prospects
to hire locals are, the higher will be your chances to acquire it.
Spain Golden Visa (Spanish Investor Visa)
The Spanish investor visa is a great option if you want to invest in the country and have more freedom than the other classes of residence permit.
There are different investment classes for this visa.
The cheapest option is purchasing real estate to the value of 500.000 euros.
You can also get it by investing 1 milion in shares of a Spanish company, Spanish funds or public debt or simply on bank deposit.
This visa will also allow you to work in the country.
