Cohen is a political science professor and founder of the Black Youth Project, which began the successful petition for President Obama to visit Chicago to address the gun violence plague after the murder of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton. Pendleton was killed just days after she performed at Obama's inauguration with her high school marching band. After the petition gathered more than 47,000 signatures, the White House announced that Obama would speak on gun violence in Chicago this Friday. Speaking to Democracy Now!, Cohen explains how her group launched the petition and convinced Obama to return to his hometown.
