(17 Jan 2020) Hundreds of people gathered outside a prominent Serbian orthodox church in Belgrade on Friday to protest against the new religious rights law adopted by the Montenegro government.
The demonstration is the latest in a series of actions which have taken place since the law was introduced.
The law requires religious communities in neighbouring Montenegro to prove property ownership from before 1918.
Critics say the law will strip the Serbian Orthodox Church, which still has a large presence in Montenegro, of its property, which includes medieval monasteries and churches.
The Montenegro government has denied the claims.
Friday's protesters were joined by members of the Orthodox Church, including Serbian Patriarch Irinej.
