Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most loved and grand celebrations in the state of Maharashtra, especially in the financial capital of the state, Mumbai. It’s a 10-day long Hindu festival celebrated with great enthusiasm across the city. Nearly every lane in Mumbai is dazzled with colourful lights, the sound of dhols and drums.
Mumbai has various types of Ganpati - wish-fulfilling, a celebrity favourite, oldest, richest and tallest. On this propitious occasion, we bring you the richest, grandest and gorgeous Ganesh Pandals of Mumbai.
1. Parel Cha Raja - Started in 1947, Parel cha Raja is a 26 feet standing idol of Ganpati bappa. This is located in Nare Park area of Parel. Undir Mama (mouse) is the Ganesh vahan. It is believed that you can whisper your wish in undir mama’s ears and it will be fulfiled by bappa.
2. Parel Cha Vighnaharta - Located in Post Gully, Parel cha Vighnaharta (the obstacle solver of Parel) is a 54-year-old Ganesh Pandal in Mumbai. The idol is equipped with every accessory needed to protect and bring peace to the city of Mumbai. The speciality of this Pandal is that it is decorated with love both Hindu and Muslim community.
3. Parel Cha Ekach Raja - Situated in Krishna Nagar area of Parel, this is a 100-year-old Ganesh Pandal in Mumbai. Lokmanya Tilak himself established the idol and started the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi here in 1920. Every day about 10,000 devotees come to visit this Pandal throughout ten days.
4. Mumbai Cha Raja - This pandal is located at the famous Ganesh Galli area and one of the oldest one in Mumbai. This Mandal promotes eco-friendly Ganeshotsav rather than the one made using Plaster of Paris to prevent pollution during visarjan. It is a 94 years old Ganpati, with an idol having a height of 22 feet.
5. Lalbaug Cha Raja - One of the most renowned, loved and richest Ganesh Pandals of Mumbai, the Ganpati idol here is 20 feet tall and continues to attract 1.5 million people per day.
6. Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani - Marking the 100th year of celebration, about 60% of the money collected by the Mandal is spent on social services initiatives throughout the year.
