A short walk in pouring rain along the River Severn in Hafren Forest, Mid Wales. This is the first section of the Source of the Severn walk along the boardwalk in Hafren Forest which takes you to the Cascade Falls, and then the path rises up through the forest following the infant River Severn all the way.
Hafren Forest is north-west of Llanidloes, a small market town in the county of Powys in Mid Wales. The forest was originally planted by the Forestry Commission in the 1930s and is now managed by Natural Resources Wales. It was named after the River Severn's Welsh name - Afon Hafren.
There are several walking trails in the area for all levels of ability - all are waymarked. At Rhyd-y-benwch car park, which is 6 miles from Llanidloes along a minor road, there are visitor facilities including picnic tables and toilets at the start of the walks.
This walk was made in late December 2019.
