In an significant judgement, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that a daughter is entitled to equal property rights under the amended Hindu Succession Act even if father died before September 9 2005 when the law was amended. The three-judge bench held that rights under the amended law are applicable to living daughters irrespective of when they are born. Pronouncing the judgement, Justice Arun Mishra said: "Daughters must be given equal rights as sons, daughter remains a loving daughter throughout life. The daughter shall have equal rights throughout life, irrespective of whether her father is alive or not."
