Why can't the NYC MTA subways be more like the ones in Paris, namely, let riders open the doors as soon as a train pulls into a station ? It would speed up subway service if people got off and on trains faster.
On some of the older trains of the Paris metro system (RATP), you have to pull up a little lever in order to open the subway train doors. On still yet other trains, you push a button. On the No. 1 line in Paris, the doors open automatically with no need for riders to pull a lever or push a button.
In other words, riders of the Paris metro system don't have to wait for conductors to open the subway doors, like we do here in NYC. In NYC, MTA subway conductors can hold doors closed for as long as they can, usually, long enough for you to miss a transfer onto a connecting subway train that is sitting parked right across the subway platform. New Yorkers will know what I'm talking about.
