In his acceptance speech upon receipt of an honorary doctorate from Ulster University, Belfast, David Blevins coined the phrase: “In a world of full stops, we need more commas.” Surprised by the extent to which those words went viral online, he has further explored the peace-making concepts behind them. Those concepts played a significant part in the negotiations that culminated in the Good Friday Agreement, and the absence of them has contributed to the stalemate of recent years. Sky’s Senior Ireland Correspondent says: “It is the power of the comma that turns a no to a yes.” David Blevins is Sky News’ Senior Ireland Correspondent. He has covered every notable event on the island of Ireland in the last three decades – from the troubles to the Good Friday Agreement, the ups and downs of Stormont and more recently, Brexit and the global pandemic. In 2019, The European Journalism Institute in Prague awarded him its ‘Freedom of the Press’ Award. He regularly lectures journalism students at home and abroad on the role of the media in the peace process. In 2022, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Ulster University for his contribution to journalism, education and charity. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
