The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, ICASA, has ruled that the SABC must withdraw its notice not to broadcast visuals of the destruction of public property during violent protests. ICASA says its decision is binding. ICASA's complaints and compliance committee held a hearing into the matter two weeks ago and says it's decision was guided by the broadcasting act. The complaint was brought by Media Monitoring Africa, the Public Broadcasting Coalition and the Freedom of Expression Institute. SABC Board Chair, Professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe is scheduled to hold a media briefing on Monday afternoon.
