Pine Creek Canyon, as described by many, is an intro to Zion canyon. It is my first Zion canyon and imo the most hauntingly beautiful technical canyon I have done up to date. My team did it in 4+ hours. Despite of shivering in 4mm wetsuit for at least 2 hours, it is so worth it.
At the time we did it (June after a snowy winter), the canyon is full of water that we swam in. There were stretches of corridors with views of light coming through top of curvy canyon walls if you swim on your back and look up. Most of the canyon was in the shade, good part of it was dark but headlamp not needed. Rappel 4 (out of 6 or 7 ish rappels) offers view of intricate canyon buttress, and the final rappel is an amazing 100’ overhang into a large swim pool. The canyon water starts out murky on the upper canyon but appear clear and greenish toward the end.
My mentor was very happy in the canyon, I got to hear him sing and make ghost noises. XD
