Collaboration is similar to mediation. I like to say it's mediation on steroids with a lot of extra help. All litigated cases in Florida are required to go to mediation. Many times, they are required to go to multiple mediations between the initial filing and the final judgement. In a collaborative case, we have professionals around the table, and we know what the agenda is for each meeting. We try to make decisions that are in the best interest of the family with all the information present and with a studied evaluation of what is necessary. In a mediation, sometimes we can be forced to make very quick decisions in three hours that can affect a family for years to come.
