Andy Statler is a native Washington D.C.-based pianist who studied with some of the top musicians in the area, including Robert Redd of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and Dan LaMaestra of the Navy Commodores. Andy is known for paying homage to the "jazz standards" and the Great American Songbook, while offering his own distinctive interpretations of melodies and harmonic structures. He has developed a broad repertoire covering decades of musical output from sundry genres including jazz, blues, funk, Afro-Cuban, and pop. Andy’s approach to the piano breathes vitality into popular tunes, often from decades past, and infuses them with a freshness and relevance for appreciative audiences.
Andy founded one of the most unique, in-demand jazz groups in D.C., the Blue Dot Jazz Troupe. Blue Dot is currently the “house band” at Kramerbooks – one of the longstanding cultural hubs of D.C. – where they play every week. They are also the “house band” at the Alex Speakeasy (located inside the Graham Hotel), which has gained a reputation as one of the better jazz venues in town. His group has featured a number of prominent vocalists and instrumentalists in the area and continues to grow its following in the D.C. area.
He has been featured in premier venues across D.C. for his abilities in solo piano performance and also as a band leader and maestro of the Blue Dot Jazz Troupe. There is a vast array of D.C. venues at which Andy has performed. Every Friday night, Andy is featured at the University Club in downtown D.C., where he is the house pianist.
