Neck exercises are probably the most non-compliant of all exercise regimes...people just don’t want to do them!. That's maybe why a lot of people are not getting better with their neck pain. It's also where that term 'pain in the neck' comes from as it's so annoying.
But don't worry help is at hand! I find the most effective exercises are isometric or anti-movement exercises for the neck, as they give strength and stability at the same time for the spine. They help you connect the neck your muscles through to the rest of the spine and improve your overall strength of the neck. Let’s face it the neck sits on top of the spine and if your spine is it a non-ideal position, throughout the day you can’t hold a good position of your neck. So it makes sense to strengthen both areas at the same time.
Using a ball is a really effective way in getting that isometric load which you can graduate yourself by putting the right amount of pressure through the ball. My preference is using a Swiss Ball over a small Pilates ball
Here are 3 of the best exercises (you should do all three not just one) and different versions using the Swiss ball and Pilates ball
1️⃣ Side Flexion - Isometric Ball
2️⃣ Retraction - Isometric Ball
3️⃣ Flexion / Protraction - Isometric Ball
