The windmill village of Zaanse Schans is very close to Amstel and can be reached by bus, train, car and bicycle. I lived in the Netherlands for half a year a few years ago. I traveled to various cities in the Netherlands, but I had never been to a windmill village. So I was looking forward to this trip this time. Even though the sky wasn’t completely clear, it still couldn’t hide the beauty of Windmill Village.
Zaanse Schans Windmill Village is full of authentic Dutch wooden houses and beautiful windmills, like an open-air museum. But it is by no means a museum, because people still live here, allowing it to retain the style of the Industrial Revolution. Every day, craftsmen still work hard in factories and workshops. Visitors can choose to visit a wooden shoe workshop, a lead and tin alloy foundry, a cheese farm or any of the craft factories. Need a break? There are plenty of restaurants and cafes with Dutch cuisine to choose from. Want to pick out a nice souvenir to take home? There is sure to be something to please you in the many boutique stores.
Zaanstreek Activities There are many fun activities around the village of Zaanstreek. For example, take a boat trip, rent a bicycle or walk on the country trails to experience another side of Zaanse Schans.
