Both Rennes and Nice have had disappointing starts to this season and will be looking to put things right when they meet on Sunday afternoon in Ligue 1. The home side in particular should be full of confidence after last weekend’s stunning and unexpected 3-1 win at Marseille, with new loan signing from English Championship side Sunderland Wahbi Khazri scoring a superb goal in the victory. That result was badly needed as it gave Rennes their first three points of 2017/18 after they managed two draws and two defeats from their first four outings.

Rennes were among the lowest scorers in Ligue 1 last season and this is something the club have looked to address in the summer. To be fair to the team, they have managed nine goals from their first five league games, even though they have conceded nine as well. Sunday’s game is part of a difficult run of matches for Rennes, with matches against St Etienne and an in-form Caen to come in the following weeks. They will be hoping to manage a point from this one.

Nice meanwhile look to have revived themselves with two excellent results in the run-up to this game, a 4-0 hammering of Ligue 1 champions Monaco was followed up with a 5-1 victory at SV Zulte Waregem in the Europa League on Thursday. The club’s league position is still a concern however, with the side only 11th after five games.
