Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, countries continue to make good faith efforts to achieve the SDGs. While some of these efforts will continue to focus on awareness-raising among various stakeholders, accelerating the progress on these global goals increasingly requires that countries strengthen SDGs planning and action. It is also helpful if countries do not only look inward when doing so; rather, there is a growing opportunity to learn from peers and share relevant experiences. This session aims to capitalise on this opportunity by convening speakers from two countries – Japan and Indonesia – which have recently reviewed their past progress and presented their second Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). By sharing experiences and lessons learned, they will inform the public of their progress and strengths regarding SDGs implementation, present opportunities for stakeholder engagement, and collectively explore ways to enhance the SDGs implementation and review process with a long-term perspective.
