So far in the first four chapters of Esther, we have ridden the up and down ride of Esther and Mordecai. Esther rose to Queen, Mordecai had a position of power and the king still owes him one, but in chapter 3, things take a sudden and violent turn as Haman arrives on the scene. Having been slighted by Mordecai, he sets in motion a plan to exterminate all the Jews, leaving them with very little hope of survival, that is unless Esther is willing to step in on their behalf.
Chapters 5 to 7 not only trace out Esthers actions, they also present to us a great turning of the tables. At the end of chapter 4, Haman is on top of the world, drinking with the King, by the end of chapter 7, his body hangs from a pole. Mordecai on the other hand goes from counting his days, to counting his blessings, from victim to survivor. Come join us as we continue making our way through the complicated and amazingly interwoven book of Esther as a church.
