Royal Navy patrol boat HMS Tyne has been scrambled twice to intercept and escort Russian military vessels through British waters. The Alexander Shabalin (pictured, from the deck of the Royal Navy patrol boat) was shadowed for 500 miles. Fellow Ropucha-class military vessel, Minsk (inset), was also tailed by the British warship across 500 miles of open sea. The ships of the Russian fleet are used to transport military equipment from northern ports to bases in the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
