After the Battle of Mobile Bay, the Union movements into the heart of the South continued. Guarding the city of Mobile and the rivers that would lead into the heart of Alabama was a Confederate fort built around an old ghost town. Fort Blakeley, just outside of Mobile, is home to some of the most well preserved earthworks of any battlefield in the U.S. We're exploring the history of this lesser known battle that was fought in the final days of the Civil War.
