Believe it or not, most thyroid patients take their thyroid medication incorrectly. Let’s talk about some tips to make sure you are getting the most out of your thyroid medication (I’m going to be talking a lot about levothyroxine here but these principles apply to ALL thyroid medications). First tip: Always take your levothyroxine on an empty stomach and at least 2 hours away from food (this is how long it takes for your stomach to empty). Second tip: Never take your thyroid medication at the same time as other supplements or medications. 30-60 minutes is sufficient for most medications and supplements but if you are taking calcium or iron then it should be taken 4 hours away. Third tip: Make sure you are taking your thyroid medication at the same time every single day and do your best to never miss a dose! Fourth tip: And finally, take your thyroid medication with only water and take it as far away as possible from caffeine such as coffee or tea. #thyroid #hypothyroidism #thyroidmedication #hashimotos #thyroidproblems #thyroidawareness
