A visit to the Dean Forest Railway for the first time since 2019 for their 'Royal Forest of Steam' gala, held over the first weekend of November. The gala saw an array of three GWR tank engines working a number of passenger and freight trains up and down the line between Lydney Junction and Parkend. These were the two resident Pannier & Small Prairie Tanks, Nos.9681 & 5541, along with 5600 Class 'Taffy Tank' No.6695, visiting courtesy of 6695 Locomotive Ltd and the Swindon & Cricklade Railway. Hawksworth Pannier Tank No.9466 was also set to join in, but unfortunately became unavailable, with a replacement unable to be sourced in time. Still, it was a cracking line-up, regardless. Also in action was Peckett No.2147 ‘Uskmouth 1’, recently returned to steam for the first time since 1993 and could be seen on brakevan rides at Norchard, although not featured in this video.
The weather was very much full gloom throughout the day, but the Forest of Dean did its best to add a little autumn colour to the proceedings, along with a few tasty soundtracks from the main stars of the show.
Filmed on Sunday 3rd November 2024, using a Panasonic HC-X1500 with an Audio-Technica BP4025 microphone.
