Watching Live HDTV with Mplayer and SMplayer. Mplayer requires a channels.conf file to be added to the hidden .mplayer folder. Channels.conf can be generated with the scan command in the terminal.

scan /usr/share/dvb/atsc/us-ATSC-center-frequencies-8VSB | tee channels.conf

cp channels.conf .mplayer/

mplayer://dvb
