The Mu'tazila was a heretic group that appeared in the early days after the passing of the Companions. They had were considered some of the most deviant and heretic people of the time and some even desecrated the Mushaf (Quran). They eventually gained support of the governments and convinced the leaders to persecute the people of Sunnah, leading to the deaths and torture of the most pious people of the Sunnah. The most famous of these was the Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal.
Yasir Qadhi, Yale graduate and local American deviant, thinks they weren't that bad though.
Imam Ahmad bin Hambal:
"The scholars of the Mu'tazila are heretics" ( Manaqib Al-Imam Ahmad 213 )
'Abdurahman ibn Mahdi:
I entered upon Malik and a man asked him about the Quran so he said: "Are you from the companions of 'Amr ibn 'Ubayd (Mu'tazili leader)? May Allah curse 'Amr! ..." ( Dham Al-Kalam Wa Ahlih 173 )
'Abdallah ibn Ahmad:
I heard my father (Ahmad bin Hanbal) say: "The Qadariyah and Mu'tazilah are not to be prayed with" ( Sharh Usool I'tiqaad Ahlu Sunnah 806 )
