Seen here is the Royal Australian Air Force's Boeing performing a short field landing and takeoff as part of the Australian Defence Force Showcase, which brought together the Air Force, the Army and the Navy to demonstrate what they are capable of to the crowd at the Avalon International Airshow. Not only does it look awesome, but the sounds of the four Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 turbofan engines are absolutely sensation, particularly during the takeoff roll.
The C-17 commonly performs tactical and strategic airlift missions, transporting troops and cargo throughout the world; additional roles include medical evacuation and airdrop duties. With a maximum payload of 77.5 tons the Globemaster is certainly a heavy lifter, whilst also capable of operating from strips as short as 1,100m and as narrow as 27m.
Seen here relatively lightly loaded the C-17 stops within seconds of touching the runway, before using its four thrusters to reverse back along the runway before offloading its cargo.
As mentioned earlier this demonstration was a part of the Australian Defence Force Showcase, which featured not only the C-17 and P-8A shown in this video but also a number of other military assets including the C-130, F/A-18 Hornet, ARH Helicopter, MRH-90 Helicopter, AP-3C Orion and many more.
We hope you enjoyed watching this C-17 being put through its paces just as much as we did, make sure you let us know what you think in the comments section below!
