Mumbai, Sep 28 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday addressed the 68th Annual General Meeting of Indian Banks' Association and cited the dire need of providing autonomy for banks. He stated that PSBs which now shall be a part of the Banking Bureau should be given independence in order to select their manpower especially at the helm without the government intervention. He also said that efforts are being made to infuse more professionalism in the Banking Bureau. He stated that the sectors that are stressed like state discoms, power, steel and et al are also being paid heed to in order to curb NPAs (Non-Performing Assets) in banks. He further cited the surge of imports declaring a provisional duty on imports for 200 days resulting in some relief to the domestic producers.
