WHILE IT BRINGS BACK IMAGES OF THE NEW ORLEANS CONVENTION CENTER AFTER KATRINA THINGS HERE ARE FAR DIFFERENT.. THERE IS FOOD.. AND A HEAVY POLICE PRESENCE TO KEEP THE PEACE..
STILL LIFE HERE IS VERY DIFFICULT..

We've been extremely uncomfortable but we're alive and we didn't get hurt..

To realize after the fact there is no way out and you're gonna die.. The building shook, we just hunkered down like the mayor told us to do and stayed..

SOME HAVE BEEN HERE SINCE THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM, OTHERS ARE STILL ARRIVING..

I run out of water and food and everything iwas gonna stick it out those guys came last night so I cam here..

Just to explain how you could run out of food and water, well even though we're only 50 miles from Houston a major city.. On the island here nothing is open, nothing.. There is no food, no power, no water, no cell phone service, nothing..
And it will certainly be days and maybe even weeks before all of those services are restored here.. Rich Matthews the ap Galveston, TX..
