Fifth-Generation Cascadia Adds Advanced Safety Features, Increased Aerodynamic Efficiency, and New Business Intelligence Tools to Improve Profitability
The newest addition to the Freightliner family, the new Cascadia continues its legacy as the industry’s preferred on-highway truck in the North American market.
Production is scheduled to begin in mid-2025 at Freightliner’s U.S. and Mexico facilities.
Freightliner, a leading manufacturer of medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks and a brand of Daimler Truck, a division of Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), has introduced the fifth-generation Cascadia, its heavy-duty model. The next generation of the industry’s best-selling Class 8 truck in the North American market sets new standards in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability. The fifth-generation Freightliner Cascadia is scheduled to begin production in mid-2025 at its U.S. and Mexico facilities.
The fifth-generation Freightliner Cascadia introduces all-new, expanded capabilities for the Detroit Assurance Suite of Safety Systems, including four new short-range radar sensors and an improved long-range radar sensor, along with enhanced computing power and an upgraded camera. With these updates and extensions, the new Cascadia now comes with Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA6), Active Lane Assist 2 (ALA2), Attentive Driver Protection, and Side Guard Assist 2 (SGA2), which enhance safety for drivers and other road users.
An all-new Intelligent Brake Control System (IBCS) for the Freightliner Cascadia introduces Comfort Braking, which provides brake force distribution, pad wear control and performance monitoring. These features provide smoother, safer braking, especially during sudden stops, and help extend brake pad life through even wear. The IBCS also includes Endurance Braking, which seamlessly blends the engine retarder and service brakes when the foot pedal is depressed, helping to further extend brake life. An all-new electronic parking brake activates Rollaway Mitigation.
Also new are Dual-Stage Smart LED Headlights that offer increased durability and impact resistance. They are also designed to melt ice and eliminate condensation in minutes. With an increased beam pattern, automatic high-beam feature and easier beam adjustment capabilities, they increase visibility, safety and driver comfort.
The fifth-generation Freightliner Cascadia features the factory-installed MirrorCam System, a state-of-the-art camera system that enhances driver visibility. Mounted high above the doors, the cameras provide a wide field of view and are equipped with infrared technology and hydrophobic coatings to repel water and other contaminants. MirrorCam helps improve visibility, especially at night and in adverse weather conditions, and increases driver comfort by minimizing head and neck movement.
Significant aerodynamic improvements for the fifth generation deliver an additional 1.9 percent fuel economy benefit and include a new hood design, a redesigned A-pillar deflector, three-piece front wheel arch covers, hood-bumper seal and new bumper vents that direct airflow around the underbody and tires for increased efficiency. There’s also a new Max Aero Bumper option that delivers even greater efficiency without sacrificing ground clearance, durability or serviceability.
To help improve uptime and provide greater operational insight, Cascadia is equipped with advanced technology that enables both new and familiar business intelligence tools. The latest connected telematics platform, which powers Detroit Connect, delivers on-the-road benefits for drivers as well as more real-time information that’s communicated to fleet managers. Additionally, a new electrical architecture enhances cybersecurity and enables faster transaction speeds. Other key new Detroit Connect features include Remote Lock and Unlock, Geo-Fencing Services and Detroit Connect Video Capture 2.0, which automatically records and captures data during security events or when initiated by a driver.
