The Modi government has stepped up surveillance amid the COVID explosion in China. Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said RT-PCR tests will be mandatory for passengers arriving from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand from January 1. The United States will also require negative COVID tests from all air travelers from China starting January 5. Japan, Italy, and Malaysia too have increased health measures for travelers from China.
