"My USMLE Step 1 Exam Day Experience
I woke up early, feeling nervous but prepared. After months of studying, the big day had finally arrived.
I arrived at the test center at 8:20 AM, giving myself plenty of time. I checked in, put my phone away, and stored my stuff in the provided locker.
Next, I went into the exam hall, where they checked my documents. Remember to dress warmly, as the exam hall can be chilly.
I skipped the tutorial since I'd already seen it on the NBME website. I wrote down key biostatistics formulas on the cardboard provided for rough work.
I started my test, doing two blocks with a 5-minute break in between (didn't leave the exam hall for 5-minute breaks).
Then, I took a 10-minute break, stepping outside into the lounge. I grabbed a snack, had an energy drink, and used the restroom.
Then I did another 2 blocks with a 5-minute break in between and then took a 15-minute break for lunch and namaz.
I brought sandwiches, energy drinks, and chocolates as snacks to keep me energized.
After lunch and a short prayer (namaz), I tackled two more blocks with a 5-minute break in between. Feeling confident, I reminded myself to stay focused.
After 6 blocks, I took another 10-minute break, as my break time was remaining and I didn't use all of the break time.
In the final block, I relaxed too much, as my previous blocks went pretty well, and unfortunately, lost track of time and didn't attempt the final question.
Lesson learned: Stay vigilant throughout, even if you feel confident.
Leaving the exam hall, I felt relieved, relaxed, and satisfied with my performance.

Tips for a Smooth Exam Day Experience
_Pre-Exam_
1. Arrive early (by 8:30 AM) ⏰
2. Dress warmly and in layering❄️
3. Bring snacks, ID, and scheduling permit 📝
4. Familiarize yourself with the exam tutorial beforehand from nbme website 💻
_During the Exam_
1. Stay calm and focused 🙏
2. Use breaks wisely (5-15 minutes) ⏱️
3. Prioritize hydration and snacks 🍔
4. Try to attempt one question in one minute.
5. If a question is taking longer than 1 min, skip it to attempt it in the last.
6. Stay vigilant throughout all blocks 💯
7. Have some energy drink if you feel sleepy in any block.
_Break Time_
1. Use breaks to recharge 🔋
2. Take short walks or stretch 🏋️
3. Avoid overthinking or stressing by thinking about previous blocks in breaks🤯
_Mental Preparation_
