Future technologies are used in the expo town. Nearly 30 megawatt hours of electricity were generated at the EXPO 2017. This amount is enough to supply electricity to 160 homes in Astana for a month. As the national company reports, EXPO 2017 renewable energy exhibits include wind turbines, solar panels and other interesting projects. Some exhibits bring real benefit. For instance, this station generates power for all international pavilions. It also accumulates energy in the batteries to use it in a cloudy weather.
VLADIMIR SOBOLEV, SENIOR STAFF, ASTANA EXPO 2017:
- These are absolutely real things, they generate electrical power. As I said, we received 30 megawatt hours in six weeks. This equipment will be operating after exhibition as long as the building exists. They are absolutely functional.
Nur Alem is the largest spherical building in the world. The 8-storey pavilion provides itself with electricity. Solar panels are integrated into the facade of the building. Wind turbines are installed as well. Their power reaches almost 60 kilowatts.
EXPO territory occupies 25 hectares. More than 30 eco-friendly electric cars travel along it daily. These are ambulances, police service and garbage trucks. They run the entire day to serve for the needs of international delegations and exhibition visitors. In the evening, they are plugged into the ordinary sockets to get charged.
DIAS AZBERGENOV, SENIOR STAFF, ASTANA EXPO 2017:
- As you know, the exhibition territory is very large. Ordinary combustion engine vehicles are banned here. We use electric cars on the expo territory. We also have five ambulance electric cars that can quickly reach any pavilion to let our doctors provide first aid.
Astana EXPO 2017 national company’s representatives say that renewables provide electricity to expo facilities as it do the traditional energy sources.
