The ' Please Call Me Movement' has been threatening to shut down Vodacom on Thursday. That's if it doesn't resolve the impasse with the inventor of the 'please call me' service. Vodacom has been embroiled in a protracted legal battle, Nkosana Makate, who was a Vodacom employee when he came up with the idea. In 2016 the Constitutional Court ordered that Vodacom commence negotiations with Makate in good faith. It said that the Vodacom CEO would be the one to determine the amount if a deal could not be reached.
Earlier this month Vodacom said the CEO had tabled an agreement and it considered the matter closed. But in a Facebook post-Makate described the officer he was given as shocking and an insult?
Now - we did ask Vodacom for an interview. They declined which means we cannot ask the questions we would like to ask.
But Vodacom did send us this generic voice message which we have decided to play. To discuss we're joined by the Chief Convenor of the Please Call Me Movement, Modise Setoaba.
