Instructions:
Prepare the Spice Paste:
In a mixie jar, addfennel seed , black pepper , red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt, ginger , garlic and water little by little to form a smooth, thick paste.
Marinate the Fish:
Rub the spice paste generously over the fish, ensuring it gets into the scores and coats the fish evenly.
Let the fish marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for deeper flavor).
Heat the Oil:
In a frying pan, heat coconut oil or your preferred oil over medium heat.
Add a few curry leaves to the oil for additional aroma (optional).
Fry the Fish:
Gently place the marinated fish into the hot oil. Fry on medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side or until the fish is golden brown and cooked through.
Be careful not to overcrowd the pan; fry in batches if needed.
saute crushed garlic, shallots, salt and crushed chilly in the same pan and mix well, switch off the flame and keep it on stove for 5 minutes.
Serve:
Remove the fried fish and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Garnish with fresh curry leaves or a wedge of lemon, if desired.
Serving Suggestion:
Pair this aromatic and flavorful fish fry with steamed rice, ghee rice, or chapati. It also works beautifully as a starter for festive meals or dinner parties.
