Godavari Pushkaram is celebrated once every 12 years at Pushkara Tirtham, near Rajahmundry. Legend has it that when sage Gautama was doing penance on the Brahmagiri hill a severe famine occurred in the village. The sage by his divine power relieved the people of this famine. Since then these Pushkarams are being celebrated to commemorate the end of this serious famine. During the 12 days of Pushkaram, Pujas are performed after taking a dip in the river Godavari.
History of Kotilingalu Ghat:
During the birth of Kumarasambhava Lord Shiva killed some demons. At that time Shiva lingams emerged due to drops from Lord Shiva's body falling on the demons. When the deities came to enshrine each linga starting from Nasika Triambakam, when they came to this place, one linga was missing. Then Brahma took a linga from Vishnu Kashi and worshiped it. Therefore, the name Koti Lingeswaradu was formed for the Lord of this Kshetra. Later, Sri Rama went to Ayodhya through this Kshetra and visited Sri Swami and became the Kshetrapala of this Kshetra for Sri Swami. At the same time Ravanasura is said to have worshiped the Kotilingas in this Area as per Brahma Purana. Another Story Tells its an Boat Pier to many Devotees from Rajamahendravaram who used to Visit Kotilingalu Temple in Telangana via Godavari River.
